Mostly Harmless
I have concluded that Facebook is a complete waste of time. I had a "real" account there years ago but deleted it around 2010. Over the last couple of years, I had some other accounts where I don't give them any personal information.
The "quality" of the users on Facebook is the problem even more than the leftist authoritarians that run it. I deleted my last account a couple weeks ago when I found it blocked from Marketplace (about the ONLY reason to even use FB anymore). I created a new one a week ago with a whole new persona. Now, half of the groups I try to get into won't let me in because the account is "too new." WTF?
Another group that I was already in wouldn't let me create a new post for the same reason... even though the post was detailed and included photos, with legitimate questions about the local area. Just tonight I try to join a group about the Arctic Cat Catayst platform, and was again declined because the account is "too new." What a crock. I even put in their stupid "member application" questions that I was new and interested in the Catayst platform
Then there's the actual users. I had been on a group run by some local snowmobiler club (who put out this horribly condescending video about snowmobiling safety). I made a post, and got easily 50+ replies pretty quickly (BTW this was on the old, now-deleted account). Of those posts, about 90% were condescending and mean. 5% were actually helpful, and the rest didn't understand the question. The majority of Facebook users are, it seems, elitist pricks.
Comparatively, I posted to SnoWest today... man that used to be such a cool place years ago before the software change, all the ads and them begging for money. Still, the post generated three pages of responses and EVERY SINGLE ONE was friendly and helpful.
I'll keep that Facebook account around just for browsing marketplace and ONE group that is actually worthwhile.... but the rest, screw it.
