    Yuba Pass- 12/29/24 . WET & HEAVY!

Well, we were the only troopers to ride in Yesterday's weather. It wasn't too bad actually, wind wasn't crazy, it stopped snowing on us around noon. Good coverage everywhere with about 6-8"of heavy wet snow with some serious Sierra cement underneath that. It was a workout and I was beat at the...

Was this the last powder day of the season?

It was a nice bluebird day with about 1.5' of light dry powder. If you happened to get a faceful of it from your buddy's track or your skis, it was cold and light... In my book, Sonora Pass is a special place. It's big country, the beginning of the High Sierras. Having said that, it is not for...

Will the 858 be as good as the 9R?

Truly feel like the Matryx 9R is the top machine you can be on. This coming from a Cat guy. I really want the Catalyst 858 to compete with it. Reviews are great but nothing beats a demo ride which was nowhere close to the Sierras. I have concerns and some positives since I have ridden an Alpha...

    Some pow pics from Sunday

As always, short of a blizzard, I will be out there to ride fresh pow. Sunday was just such a day, worth every minute. Got to hit Gold as it is a lower elevation area and when it's got the goods, very few places in the Sierras are as good!

What if just once the 8'-10' predicted storm really happened?

I get back from my trip to hear the biggest storm of the year is coming today through Sunday. Huge numbers predicted for the mountains. All forecasts this winter have fallen short. The 2' ends up being more like 8". I know this because I 'm out there above 7-9k every week. Only once this year...

Best ride this season was here

For some reason when I mention I am riding here, there are few takers. It has gotten worse over the years. Is it the slightly longer drive, the extreme big terrain, the chute pulls, maybe the avi crowd has scared everyone from the slopes steeper than 30* ? Yes, it's rugged, the beginning of the...

    Tempest heated goggles review

After using 509 Ignite goggles the last 3-4 seasons, I had enough things about them that I didn't like, I decided to try the Tempest. I have 6-7 rides with them, 4 of them in conditions where I could really test them. They work great! Just put them on, no buttons to turn on/off, no battery pack...

    50 miles at Gold! 2/10

It was first time all season at my favorite riding spot. Coverage is there, snow was OK, not great but I am sure it is on by next week. Get out there, climb some hills, hit them pillow zones, tree riding...it has something for everyone.

    Blue Lakes - 2/17/24

Went out Saturday to Blue. Parking lot was mostly empty as it was cloudy, and to be honest I think most people don't get excited about sledding unless there is fresh snow! Well, like all good missions, we went looking for some good snow. Plenty of it in the trees and lots of zones untouched...

Your guess for the date of this seasons first ride?

Last year, my first ride was the day before Halloween. Winter might be coming a bit later this year. What day will be the first ride this season? Only 2 rules- picture of at least 1' of snow next to your sled, submission posted here by Nov. 10, 2023. Winner gets a Japanese ski pull strap. My...

The latest and greatest or quality of snow?

Would you rather be on the latest sled with all its power and conforts riding set up Sierra cement or be on a 10-12 year old sled in 3' of powder for the day?

    2023 9R RMK Pro 155

After 27 years, I will be adding a Polaris to the line- up this season. My last one was a 1996 Indy 500 efi SKS. I have saying for the last few years, what the manufacturers should be adding or doing to make mountain sleds better. Well, the Polaris 9R checked all those boxes so I bought one...
